Reading
Do you like reading to yourself, outloud to others or listening to people read?
I used to read to my children all the time, because I knew how much I love being read to. While listening to words and expressive tones, I feel I can picture more easily the story coming to life. ![]()

I read to myself only. A good book is like a great dessert, enjoyed best if there's no one annoying or distracting you.

i like listening to poets, who are reading their works. also have tried listening to the novelists, but have always lost the thought.
I prefer reading mainly to myself although I read frequently to my daughters when they were younger. I hate for someone to read to me.
When we were freshly married my wife and me used to read the books of Mika Waltari. Iread for about half an hour and the she took over.
Today I can't imagine to do this any more. Not only because we now have developed a different fondness of topics and favour of authors. It is more intensive if you read for yourself.

Now this is an excellent mom and teacher. Yes it is so amazing when reading to children, how their eyes light up, like you are presenting them with a treasure, and a total world of imagination. Books are great gifts for children, but when you partake with them, this is a bond and priceless gift they will always remember..

Hey now Pike might have something there. Did you ever sit and find something amusing in the paper or an artical you are reading, relay it on to your spouse/other and have a interest or laugh in knowing? We go to the movie's and enjoy the same story. This could be a great way to spend time together in a different way and enjoy a book together.
The last book I read to my children was The Hobbit. We had more laughs over my pronunciation of these elfs and hobbits names than the story itself. But times that I will never forget. I do look forward to reading to my grandchildren as well.

I read almost exclusively to myself. Occasionally I will read out loud to someone or someone will read out loud to me, a short article or data we/I need to know but to listen to others read to me happens all to slow. I read much faster than people can speak.

I totally prefer reading to myself.
Being read to you either get distracted or you get one of those people who read one word a minute and mispronounce 'Cat'.
As an actor, reading out becomes too much like script reading, and I start thinking about stage directions and bleh!
Reading to self is just..better
I prefer to read for myself in silence...

I looooooooooooooove to read to small children. But my style is different from some people's--I like it to be interactive and have the children fill in words here and there or make comments...sometimes we act out the story if they know it really well, or I ask them what they think is going to happen and so on. I also utilise the pictures as much as I can--showing them how they tell the story as well, give clues to what is happening or things the words didn't say outright, etc. It's lots of fun--kids are way smart and get really into it all.
