If MF Moderating Was A Paid Job

If......MF moderating was a paid job, in the fact that they actually got wages per hour they were on here moderating, do you think that it would encourage more people to be moderators (since some positions cannot be filled lately)?

Also, do you think that the moderating would be more official and adult than it is at the present for fear that they may lose their jobs when making wisecracks and rash decisions with their powers?
And no, I have no problems with any moderators at the moment...just occasional observations prompting my question.

I think it could be a good part-time job for some.

I do think it would encourage more people to be moderators - I think it would be hard to tell how many hours have actually been spent on the sight though.

Because no one replies to the topics in the AUS channel!! so how can I and furballs moderate it then?

It probably would encourage more people to apply for moderator jobs, but it doesn't mean the moderating would be any more efficient.

It's probably is better as a volunteer position Smile

Fenix is right, more people would apply, but for the wrong reasons. Although I wouldn't mind getting paid. Very happy

There is nothing to moderate. So I don't think they'd have any reason to pay for nothing

That might have something to do with certain members being banned.

Before thinking about paying people to become moderators, you should first think about paying people to become members who post in the forums thus giving the moderators something to do.

In short, yes it will encourage people to become mods, but they will be the wrong sort of people wanting the job for all the wrong reasons. Plus we have very few current mods who are of a standard high enough to warrant payment of any kind. And no, payment will not make the job more official and adult, but quite the reverse as it is (relatively speaking... but being Mailfriends you wouldn't think so) much easier to sack volunteer mods than it is to sack paid ones. So any issues arising from current volunteer mods thinking they are immune from prosecution despite their indiscretions will just become even greater.

Ahh..well..lets look at one that does pay and see if it's done better..
Ebay has a set of forums that are outsourced..not actually moderated by Ebay itself..
They pretty much have it streamlined down into a fine art...they have most of the other posters do a large part of the work by a handy little report button. What a breeze. They really don't have to read anything.
Of course, whether it's report worthy or not has nothing to do with it. If someone doesn't like you they can just sit on that button all day long . You get enough pink slips...it's off to Disney land. Doesn't matter if you're Mickey himself.
They also use the keyword function...tread carefully when you use a word like spit...or don't ever say something like you don't give a buck. It's all the same to them.
And no..I never suffered there..I'm too damn sweet...but someone near and near to me does enough for me to observe all the action.
That's not to say payment wouldn't herd in the applications...but I don't doubt payment is rigged to the exclusion of free thought.
Free thought is the only thing that saves this place.

It is..it is..It gives me the giggles when my SO goes counting out all those virtual pink slips.
But he gets grumpy when they send him on vacation.Very happy:

I guess like any job they would big themselves up and then fade away and not have much to really offer til they sacked Laughing
