Trip to Russia.
Hello!
I am going to Russia in August, I will not be alone but with a friend of mine who is Russian and has lived for some years in my city (Florence). She was born in Nijni Novgorod. I will stay about 20 days and we have already a plan: we will spend some days in Moscow (and will also visit a small historical city near there called Sergiev Posad), some days in Nijni and some days on the Volga river. Are there people who live in those areas (I am sure there are from Moscow) or have visited them, who could suggest something interesting or something not to miss?
Thanks ![]()

Lin12, of course I know that St Petersburg is worth visiting too. But we do not have time for everything. My friend goes back to Russia not only for tourism, but also to see her family, so she has to spend some days in Nijni to see them. She is with me now and she read the topic in Russian "puteschestvia po Rossii". There are interesting suggestions there, republic of Altaj, lake Bajkal, but these are so far away from where we go! So maybe I will visit St Petersburg in my next trip ![]()
Yeah, one certainly needs too much time to see all those fantastic places we've got ![]()
Anyway, wish you to enjoy your trip!! Have a nice time!

Of the places you quoted, I have only been to Moscow and Sergiev Posad. It would be long to talk about Moscow, there is a lot of sightseeing to do there. As for Sergiev Posad, it is known for a beautiful monastery that is a great example of russian architecture.
I don't know much about Nizhnij Novgorod, just that is was formerly called Gor'kij (and in fact Maksim Gor'kij was born there) and that it is on the Volga. But you wrote that your friend was born there, so, without any doubt, she knows the place well. As for cruising on the Volga, I imagine it will be a great experience. I think that you have an interesting itinerary, you won't limit your visit to one of the big russian cities (as most foreign visitors do), but will have the opportunity to see other aspects of the country. Being with a native, you will have also a better opportunity to know Russia, so enjoy your trip, счастливого пути!

Hey, and what about Saint-Petersburg?? Think it's not worth visiting??
